What a great war movie! I saw it twice in the theatre. First, I took my father-in-law and then David, Jaye and I went. David asked me how I could sit through it more than once (twice on DVD since then). It was disturbing, yes, but I was such a WWII buff in high school and it made all that reading about it, and pictures in the Time-Life series and old movies really come to life. Of course, it had Spielberg's signature touches, but he got it right for a righteous war.
I was pondering your new post on synch-ro-ni-zing when I suddenly noticed the change to "puffing".
Reading your little paragraph of explanation for the change, I remembered that, in other languages, "spirit" and "breath" are designated by the same word. In translation, both English words refer to the presence of creative and restorative forces in the world.
Those forces are tough and resiliant. They make Pollyanna look like a slacker.
Susie, I couldn't even sit through this whole video clip again, it really is painful. I wanted to both honor what was done for "us" there and give war its just showcase. The heartbreak that men have had to do this to each other for millennia in the worst century in history for it, just keeps gnawing at all of us.
Thanks, Linda, for understanding that. I seriously contemplated just letting this space go, but putting into words what I feel in response to world events seems like doing just a little more than nothing, and also shores up my resolve. I know you believe in the power of words.
During some months off from huffing, I found myself shifting perspective in regard to world events. So I am coming back to this blog now to "puff" little hopeful breaths into the world about the problems we face. Not to be a Pollyanna, but in a spirit of positive change.
